As a food blogger I must, of course, write about my Thanksgiving meal. Last year Jasper and I hosted both or our parents and siblings at our house in NoVa. This year, we were able to travel out to Bend, OR to spend the holiday with his family. We hadn’t seen them since the year before, and hadn’t been out to OR in two years. So it was really nice to be able to do that. And Bend is not an unpleasant place to visit, I mean please:
We were also blessed this year to be able to have family friends with us – one of the officiants from our wedding and her husband. We hadn’t seen Faith since our wedding, so I really excited to spend time with her.
The meal was fantastic, of course! With plenty of leftovers for day-after sandwiches (arguably the best part).
We had a gorgeous turkey with both inside and outside stuffing.
Green bean casserole (made by me); sweet potatoes with pears and walnuts; raw broccoli salad with bacon, raisins, and sweet onion (thanks Faith and Tom!); cranberry sauce (made by me) with orange juice/zest, star anise, and cloves.
A sampling of pies: apple crisp, marionberry (similar to blackberry, but better), mincemeat, and pumpkin with orange zest.
It was a lovely day of food, family, and prayer. I will leave you with this last image – the happy C. family (minus sister Kailey – we missed you!):
