You guys – I have a computer again! Yay!!! We are still in the process of settling in, but I at least have a place to post from now. Right before we moved was my 30th birthday, and I was kind of bummed because I had wanted to do a big trip to New York but the timing with the new house meant that we couldn’t. Jasper told me that he was going to plan a smaller trip to a surprise location, so right in the middle of packing we hopped in the car and head to… The Inn at Little Washington! What a great surprise!
It also worked out nicely as a pre-anniversary trip because it was almost to our 5 year wedding anniversary! I can’t even believe it – time flies!
We arrived just in time for afternoon tea, which was lovely. Both the sweet and savory bites were delicious and I love that they make all of their own accompaniments. I had a delicious caramel tea that I ended up buying from the store because it was so good.
Tea is served in the sitting room.
Then we headed up to our room – which was the Julia Child room! Yay! It was decorated in a French style with blues and yellows.
The bathroom was huge! (And handicap accessible, FYI.)
Dinner the first night was at the chef’s table in the kitchen! (I’ve written about that before here.) So first up was the addictive truffled popcorn (we actually asked the next night if they could send some up to our room, and they did!).
Canapes – beautiful, delicate, delicious. Though the bloody mary gelees we were served the next night were not our favorite.
Amuse bouche – white bean soup and gougere. The soups are always perfection.
The tasting menu that featured all of my favorite dishes, starting with the famous Tin of Sin – caviar over crab and cucumber rillette.
Lamb Carpaccio – I got excited and forgot to take a picture before digging in, oops! I am obsessed with the Caesar ice cream!
Macaroni and cheese with Virginia country ham and truffle – the best mac and cheese? I think so. I forgot to takes photos of the next two dishes – squab and veal – but the first three were my favorites, anyway.
I forget what flavors were in this ice pop, but it was yummy.
Chocolate and honey cake with toasted marshmallow, marzipan bees, and a special message.
Complimentary juice flight and yogurt parfait at breakfast.
Breakfast entree (not complimentary) – caviar parfait.
We spent some time driving around the countryside and visiting the Lurray Caverns. It was such a lovely trip. Thank you to my wonderful husband!
